During the Movement Step when in the Active Role, an Engaged activated model may only declare Idle or Walk. However, if it declares Walk, it can only move directly towards the enemy model that is causing the Engaged State. If a model is Engaged by more than one model, it must choose one of the enemy models causing the Engaged State when declaring the Walk Action and it must move directly towards that enemy model. While Engaged, a model may declare only Melee Attack, Assist (targeting itself) or Dodge. A model ceases to be Engaged when it leaves the melee weapon reach of the enemy model, Disengages with a Dodge, or by rendering the enemy model into the Incapacitated, Petrified, Crouched or Dead State. While a model is Engaged, it automatically has LoS to all enemy models that are causing it to be Engaged, but cannot react against models outside of its Awareness.
Frequently Asked Questions
[edit | edit source]Q: Can a model with Hit and Retreat that is in the Engaged State perform Walk due to Hit and Retreat after it Attacked a model?
A: No.
Q: Can an Artificer apply an Enchantment to itself while holding a two-handed weapon or while Engaged?
A: Yes. It is not casting the Spell, only applying the effect.

[edit | edit source]Q: If I break Engaged with Hit and Retreat, can a model with Impede re-engage me?
A: Yes. As soon as Engaged is dropped via Hit and Retreat, a model with Impede that is in melee RCH can declare an Attack of Opportunity, which — thanks to the Impede ruling — instantly re-applies the Engaged state and stops the model. (— Dockel)
Q: How does Hit and Retreat work when a model is engaged by two enemies?
A: Activate the model with Hit and Retreat → declare the skill to break Engaged and move freely (enemies can still declare Attacks of Opportunity here) → perform Movement → Reactions → Action → if your Action was an Attack, you may then perform a Normal Movement → if you end outside the enemies' melee reach, Engaged is not applied at the end of the Resolution Phase. (— Dockel)
Q: Can an Engaged model use Protector to move out of engagement?
A: Yes. Being Engaged only affects the Declaration of Movement. With Protector you don't Declare Movement, so you can break the Engaged state that way. SPD is used for Movements; Protector isn't performing Walk or Run, so a model with a target within half its SPD can simply appear next to it in a legal spot. (— Dockel)
Q: How do Panicked and Engaged interact for forced movement?
A: Engaged takes priority — while Engaged you may only move directly toward the engaging model. That's why a Panicked model that fails its Morale check while Engaged has to Dodge instead. (— Dockel)
